# Customer lookup tool for your team

> Canonical: https://teamonly.dev/templates/customer-lookup

A customer lookup tool for support, sales and account managers. Find a customer in a second and read what the team knows about them. Only your coworkers can open it.

**Made for:** Support, sales, account managers

Screenshot: https://teamonly.dev/templates/customer-lookup.webp (The Customers screen of the customer lookup tool: a search box for name, company, email, phone or account number, and a table with account number, email, phone, plan, account manager and notes)

## What your team gets

- **Find anyone fast.** Search by name, company, email, phone or account number. Every word you type narrows it down, and an exact account number comes first.
- **Notes the whole team shares.** Anyone can read and add notes on a customer, and delete their own.
- **Refresh the list from a CSV.** Admins upload an export from a spreadsheet, billing system or CRM. Customers are matched on account number or email, so notes stay attached.
- **Nothing quietly disappears.** Customers missing from a new upload are kept and marked, not deleted.

## Who can do what

Only people who can open the app get this far. Inside it, the owner gives roles to coworkers by work email on the People page.

| Who | Can |
|---|---|
| Everyone who can open the app | Search, open customers, add notes, delete their own notes |
| Admins | Upload the customer list, delete any note, change who is an admin |
| The owner (who first deploys it) | Everything |

Who can open the app at all is set by TeamOnly: everyone at your company, or only the people you name with `npx teamonly access only`.

## Online in a few commands

You need Node.js on your computer, which Claude Code and Cursor users already have. Run these in a terminal.

1. **Make the app.** This creates a new folder called `customers` with the whole app and installs what it needs.
2. **Try it on your computer.** It opens at `http://localhost:5173`, signed in as a test user who owns the app.
3. **Put it online.** Sign in once per computer, then deploy. You get a link like `customers.acme.teamonly.app` that only your company can open.

```
$ npx teamonly init --template customer-lookup customers
✔ Created "customers" from the customer-lookup template
$ cd customers && npm install
$ npm run dev
  Local: http://localhost:5173/
$ npx teamonly login
✔ Signed in as dana@acme.com
$ npx teamonly deploy
✔ Live at https://customers.acme.teamonly.app
  Only @acme.com accounts can sign in.
```

**After the first deploy:** Open Upload list and choose your CSV. Customer details are sensitive, so if not everyone at the company should see them, run `npx teamonly access only priya@acme.com sam@acme.com`.

**Or just ask.** In Claude Code or Cursor, in the app's folder, type **"deploy this on TeamOnly"**. It runs the commands for you, asks for your work email and the code we send, and offers a 14-day free trial if your company has no plan yet.

## Change it by asking your AI

The template is ordinary code in your folder. Ask Claude Code or Cursor for changes in plain words, check them with `npm run dev`, then deploy again. Some ideas:

- "Show the last five notes on the search results so I don't have to open each customer."
- "Add a renewal date column and a page listing customers who renew in the next 30 days."
- "Let people tag notes as call, email or meeting."
- "Add a link from each customer to their page in our billing system."

## What it costs

- The template is free. You pay for TeamOnly, which hosts it, after a 14-day free trial with no card.
- **Builder, $19 a month:** one builder and up to three apps.
- **Team, $249 a month:** any number of builders and apps, and anyone with your company email can deploy.
- Coworkers who only use the app are free. No seats to buy.

## Read the code first

Every template is open on GitHub, with its README. Look at it before you start, or show it to IT. https://github.com/sohelsd/teamonly-templates/tree/main/templates/customer-lookup

## Questions people ask

### What columns does the CSV need?

It looks for account number, name, company, email, phone, plan, account manager and customer since. Common other names such as Customer ID, Organization or Tel are recognised, and the order doesn't matter.

### Will uploading a new list delete our notes?

No. Customers are matched on account number, or email when there is none, so notes stay with the right customer. Anyone missing from the new list is kept and marked.

### Can I limit who sees customer data?

Yes. By default anyone at your company can open the app. Run `npx teamonly access only` with the work emails of the people who should see it. The owner is always included.

### Can it read straight from our CRM?

It works from a CSV export out of the box. An app on TeamOnly can call a CRM that has an internet API, with the key kept as a secret, so you can ask your AI tool to add that. It can't reach systems that are only on your company's private network.
